The success of artists does not depend solely on the quality of their work, but also to a large extent on their "personal brand." This self-created brand cannot be completely controlled by PR or social media, but this usually does not affect their success. This was observed in the case of the artist Jörg Immendorff, whose auction turnover increased significantly after the media furore surrounding his cocaine scandal.
The personality of artists always plays a role when it comes to the evaluation of their works. If they are already renowned, all of their works are valued higher.
